Love that album. Ellington also recorded a bunch of small group stuff for the Mercer label - run by him and his son, Mercer - around 1950. This is one with Max, Johnny Hodges, and Red Rodney. https://youtu.be/qk9LQ6F60GQ?si=1joHytcCMIe7gx1V
All of that stuff is on various collections. Some of the sides feature Oscar Pettiford on cello with Ellington backing him up on piano. And there’s piano duets with Ellington and Strayhorn. Ellington never stopped evolving.
'Money Jungle' is one of my favorite albums (showing my age and how I first encountered it by using the 'A' word). Ellington and Mingus (the only person Duke ever fired) AND Max Roach! How is it so few have heard of this?
Anyway, yeah: perfect title for where we are now - and have been for a while, only now it's so obvious, it's impossible to ignore.
thanks Reg, and thanks for reading my attempts to make sense of our days. Why am I anxious for the Grifter to show his hand? Talking about our age? He was on Letterman being dressed down by Dave when I was like in my 20s wasn't he? Wow, we needed Dave in 2016 to expose him. No one listened though.
I call Trump a human slot machine.
that is it ... so perfect... the human slot machine.
Money Jungle. YEAH🔥🔥🔥

Very cool, Clay, Thanks for this. I will track it down.

Money Jungle. Failed state. Triple genius. Brilliant! Thanks, Brian.....
